Free Toddler Crochet Top
Rainbow Sorbet Shell Ribbed Tee

This super sweet girl’s shell ribbed tee is perfect for the cooler late summer/early fall weather. Perfect, worn over a tank, tee or long sleeve top. You can even add extra shell rows on the arm to make it a long sleeve.

YARN
Luster Sheen Yarn by Red Heart (#2 fine)- 420 yards/ 120g or two skeins total
If you choose four colors you can make two of these tops with 4 skeins

MATERIALS
4.0mm (G) hook
Embroidery needle

Finished Measurements
Chest 21” circumference
Arms 7 ¾” circumference
Total length 14″
Arm length (from underarm) 3 ½”

GAUGE
4 shell repeats and 8 rows = 4” x 4”

NOTES

• Pattern is written with color changes but you can use as few or as many colors as you like
• To join shell and dc rounds: Sl st into the top of the Ch3
• To begin next shell round: Sl st into the next st. Sl st into the Ch1 sp (change color on this sl st)
• To join sc rounds: Sl st into the top of the Ch1

STITCH GUIDE
ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es)

SPECIAL STITCHES

FHDC– foundation half double crochet
Ch 3 (counts as first fhdc) and yarn over (YO). Insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook). YO and draw through 1 loop (1 chain made). YO and draw through all loops on hook—1 foundation half double crochet. This is your first fhdc. For each additional fhdc needed; YO and insert hook under the 2 loops of the “chain” of last stitch and pull up loop. YO and draw through 1 loop, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

SH– Shell
2dc. Ch1. 2dc in same shell in the same stitch. First shell of each round is Ch3. 1dc. Ch1. 2dc in the same st.

Inc SH– Increase Shell
1dc. Ch1. 2dc. Ch1. 1dc in the same stitch.

Half SH– Half Shell
1dc. Ch1. 1dc in the same stitch. First half shell of each round is Ch4 and 1dc in the same st.

Hdc2tog– half double crochet two together
Yarn over (YO) and insert hook in first st. YO and draw up loop (three loops on hook). YO and pull through first two loops on hook (two loops remaining). YO and insert hook in second st. YO and draw up loop (four loops on hook). YO and pull through first two loops on hook (3 loops remaining). YO and pull through all three loops on hook.

Sc2tog– single crochet two together
Insert hook in first st. Yarn over (YO) and draw up loop (two loops on hook). Insert hook in second st. YO and draw up loop (three loops on hook). YO and pull through all three loops on hook.

In pattern= SH in every Ch1 sp- one shell in every shell or half shell and 2 shells in every increase shell.

CA– Color A- Hot Pink
CB– Color B- Lime
CC– Color C- Orange
CD– Color D- Violet

Ribbed Shell Tee FREE crochet pattern

BODICE

1. Fhdc 66. Join round with sl st. <66> Measures approximately 15 ¾”

2. Ch2. Skip next st. *1hdc in each of the next 2sts. 2hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around. Last 2hdc will be placed in the st previously left empty. <88>

3. Change to CB- *[SH. Skip 3sts] 7x. Inc SH. [SH. Skip 3sts] 2x. Inc SH. Repeat from * one more time. <22 shells>

4. Work in pattern. <26 shells>

5. Change to CC- *[1SH in every SH] 8x. Inc SH. [1SH in every SH] 3x. Inc SH. Repeat from * one more time. <26 shells>

6. Work in pattern. <30 shells>

7. Change to CD- *[1SH in every SH] 9x. Inc SH. [1SH in every SH] 4x. Inc SH. Repeat from * one more time. <30 shells>

8. Work in pattern. <34 shells>

9. Change to CA- *[1SH in every SH] 10x. Inc SH. [1SH in every SH] 5x. Inc SH. Repeat from * one more time. <34 shells>

10. Work in pattern. <38 shells>

DIVIDE FOR ARMS

11. Change to CB- [1 SH in every SH] 10x. Half SH and fsc1. Skip 7 shells and Half SH in next shell. [1 SH in every SH] 10x. Half SH and fsc1. Skip 7 shells and Half SH in next shell. < 10 shells and 2 half shells for front and back and 7 skipped shells for each arm hole, 1fsc underarm st for each underarm>

BODY

12. *[1 SH in every SH] 10x. At underarm; 1dc in first Half SH, Half SH in fsc underarm st, 1dc in next Half SH. Repeat from *. <22 shells>

13. Change to CC- *SH in every SH. When you reach underarm; 1SH in ch1 space underarm. Repeat from *. <22 shells>

14-24. Work in pattern for twelve rows, changing color every two rows. <22 shells>

25. Change to CA- Ch3, 1dc in every st around (do not st in Ch1 spaces/ each shell will have 4sc). <88>

26-28. Ch3, 1fpdc in next st. *1dc in next st. 1fpdc in next st. Repeat from * around. <88>

29. Ch1. 1sc in every st around. <88>.  Do not sl st to join, use my invisible finish HERE

NECK FINISHING
This finishing produces a boat neck like collar, if you prefer a smaller neckline use the instructions in parenthesis.

1. Working in the back of the shirt, attach yarn in top of neckline (fhdc). 1hdc in every st around. In each of the four corners of neckline hdc2tog 1x (2x or 3x). <62 (58, 54)>

2. 1sc in every st around. In each of the four corners of neckline hdc2tog 1x (2x or 3x). <58 (54, 50)>.  Do not sl st to join use my invisible finish HERE

ARMS

1. Using CB- Insert hook in back of arm, work in pattern around arm. When you reach the underarm, 1dc in the shell directly before underarm (also contains half shell from body). Half SH in the fsc underarms st. 1dc in the next shell directly after underarm (also contains half shell from body). <8 full shells plus 1dc, Half SH, 1dc underarm>

2. Work in pattern around arm. When you reach the underarm, 1SH in Ch1 if Half SH. <9 shells>

3-6. Change to CC- Work in pattern for four more rows changing color every two rows <9 shells>

7. Change to CA- Ch3, 1dc in every st around (do not st in Ch1 spaces/ each shell will have 4sc). <32>

8. Ch3. 1fpdc in next st. *1dc in next st. 1fpdc in next st. Repeat from * around. <32>

9. Ch1. 1sc in every st around. <32>.  Do not sl st to join, use my invisible finish HERE
